Chapter One: Introduction
1.1 Background of the Study
Blood donation is a critical component of healthcare systems, as it provides the necessary resources to save lives in emergencies, surgeries, and treatment of various medical conditions. In Sabon Gari Local Government Area, Kaduna State, blood donation rates have been low, and there is a need for increased public awareness and participation in voluntary blood donation. Radio, as a mass communication tool, has been effectively used to promote health campaigns, including blood donation. Through radio programs, public service announcements, and interviews with health experts, radio stations have the potential to educate the public on the importance of blood donation, address misconceptions, and encourage voluntary participation (Sani & Musa, 2023; Ibrahim & Bello, 2024). This study explores the role of radio in encouraging blood donation in Sabon Gari LGA and evaluates the effectiveness of radio campaigns in increasing awareness and participation.
